The referees involved in the Liverpool goal disallowance scandal have had their punishment extended

Darren England and Dan Cook have had their punishments extended amid a VAR dispute following Liverpool's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham.

Criticism of VAR and the referees' relationship with the PGMOL reached its worst after Liverpool were denied a goal in Saturday's defeat to Tottenham.

According to Sky Sports, VAR referee Darren England and his assistant Cook were initially banned for two games but now their punishment has been extended to another game.

On the other hand, Simon Hooper, who was the referee of the match, will be the VAR judge in the match Everton will play against Bournemouth at the weekend.

After the match between Tottenham and Liverpool, the English referees association PGMOL admitted that Luis Diaz's goal was wrongly disallowed.

A day later, Liverpool issued a statement saying the explanation was "unacceptable" and "undermined the integrity of the sport".

The club called for a "full transparency review", adding that they would "explore open avenues to find solutions and accountability."

The Reds then asked PGMOL to release the audio of the conversation between VAR and the referee when Luis Diaz's goal was disallowed. PGMOL has yet to release the audio.
